Pets - A Hairy Guide to a Happy Ever After Empty
PostSubject: Pets - A Hairy Guide to a Happy Ever After   Pets - A Hairy Guide to a Happy Ever After EmptyTue Oct 09, 2012 11:51 am

Pets increase your stats and can be a great contribution to your character no matter the class. There are a lot different pets, but if you want a good one, then you want a Holy Pet Egg of an element that best suits your class. Let's start by covering the basics.

Type/Rarity

There are 5 different types/rarities of pet eggs. Some are more powerful than others (Wild being the worst, Holy the best). I am gonna use Light as an example.

Wild Pet Egg: 2 Stamina, 1 Strength, 1 Wisdom
Natural Pet Egg: 3 Stamina, 2 Strength, 1 Wisdom
Amazing Pet Egg: 4 Stamina, 3 Strength, 2 Wisdom
Magical Pet Egg: 5 Stamina, 4 Strength, 3 Wisdom
Holy Pet Egg: 6 Stamina, 5 Strength, 4 Wisdom

Elements

There are 7 different elements in which pet eggs can be found. Each one is best suited for specific classes (The attributes are in order from most to least).

Earth: Strength, Stamina, Dexterity (Best suited for Warrior and Champion)
Water: Wisdom, Intelligence, Stamina (Best suited for Priest and Druid)
Fire: Intelligence, Wisdom, Stamina (Best suited for Mage and Warlock)
Light: Stamina, Strength, Wisdom (Best suited for Knight and Warden)
Dark: Dexterity, Strength, Stamina (Best suited for Rogue and Scout)
Wind: Dexterity, Stamina, Wisdom (Best suited for no class combo at all)
None: Gives 1 (Blue Rune Egg), 2 (Purple Rune Egg) or 3 (Orange Rune Egg) to all attributes.

Attributes, Basestats etc

Level: The level of the pet gives a multiplier to the attribute bonus and unlocks pet skills.
Aptitude: It adds to the multiplier bonus. The higher it is (with 100 being Max), the more the increase you have once the pet levels up. So if you can afford it better start with a low level holy pet with aptitude of 80+. It can be leveled by merging your pet with one that has higher Aptitude value than yours or by transforming the Training Points into Aptitude (1000 Training Points give 1 Aptitude). Once leveled it can never drop.
Nourishment: The hunger meter of the pet. As long as the pet is summoned it goes down over time. At 81-100 it gives 100% bonus to your character, 61-80 80% and so on. Every time you die while the pet is summoned it will instantly drop by 30 points.
Loyalty: Attribute multiplier and based on this meter the pet will help u often or not at all. It has to be at 60+ for the pet to start casting the skills it has (at 100 it does it pretty often but it is random). Every time the character dies while the pet is summoned it drops by 3 points.
WARNING!! A Loyalty over 60 will result in the pet pulling mobs randomly. I have seen many times parties getting wiped in instances because of that. If you decide to keep your pet at 100 Loyalty only summon it at bosses and recall when running through an instance.
Training Points: They are used to level the Aptitude of the pet or "transform" them into Training Points to use for the skills by using an Item Shop item (can be obtained in game for free in exchange for Golden Eggs). The pet gains 50 Training Points every time is merged with another pet (no matter the level). The eggs can be "chained" to get a much higher number of points out of a single merge (will explain how to do it later on)

Leveling the Pet

The pet gains access to new skills to buy with Talent Points (TP) as it goes up in levels, it gains higher stats (a percentage of which is added as bonus to your character whenever the pet is summoned). The best way to level a pet is by merging it with pet eggs that are on the same level as the pet. The eggs need to be of the same element or Rune Pet Eggs.

When you click on the Merging tab in the Pet Interface Window you will see 2 boxes to slide 2 different pets in. Always put the pet you want to keep in the left box (the one in the right gets consumed). The pet in the right box has to be of the same level or lower than the pet on the left box. You can't merge a level 10 pet to a level 5 pet for example, it has to be level 5 or lower.

Below the boxes appear the stats of your pet (on white letters). As soon as you add the second pet a second list will appear showing the stats that are gonna be increased after the merge and the increase you are gonna have (in green letters). If it's shown in white there will be no change after the merge.

When you have put both pets in the boxes, (make sure they are both in the correct box as I have lost a Holy Egg this way just because I was in a hurry and wasn't paying attention), click on the blue circle in the middle. You can merge a maximum of 3 times per day.

A pet that is at the same level as you pet will give to your pet 1000 Experience. A pet at 1 level lower will give 500 Experience, at 2 levels lower will give 333 Experience and so on.

You can also level the pet by using food purchased in game in exchange for gold, in Item Shop in exchange for diamonds or in game (again) in exchange for Badge of Trial (Siege Wars).

Aptitude Leveling

Aptitude is a very important part of the pet as it increases the stats (the higher it is the higher the increase you get at each level up) so it is good to be maxed while the pet is at low level.

There are two ways of leveling the Aptitude.

1. Merging the pet with pets that have higher aptitude. Depnding on the pet you are gonna use, and the aptitude of your pet, it can be cheap or really expensive for a new player in game).

2. By buying a potion (Awakening Potion) that converts 1000 Training Points into 1 Aptitude point. This potion can be purchased in the Item Shop for 19 diamonds or in game by exchanging 3 Golden Eggs with the hunter in Miller's Farm.

Training Points Gathering and "Chain" Merging

The pet gains 50 Training Points every time it is merged with a pet egg of the same element and 100 points everytime it is merged with a Rune Pet Egg. While merging with Rune Pet Eggs can get you to 1000 Training points quite fast the pet is gonna level a couple times (or more) till the points are finally gathered.

There is a faster (and more expensive if you buy the eggs) way of doing it. I like to call it Chain Merging.

Let's say you have a level 5 Holy Pet Egg Fire and you want to level the Aptitude without leveling the pet (or gaining 1 level max). You can go to the Auction House and buy every fire pet egg (Wild, Natural, Amazing) up to level 4 or 5 or of course you can get traps and keep the ones you can use while selling the rest. You can make some gold too if you are patient and you don't buy them.

So whatever your choise was, let's say that you are at a point where you have your level 5 pet egg and 20 pet eggs between level 1 and 5. Open the pet interface window and put the 2 lowest level pets in.

You will have 3 pets in the interface now (your level 5 fire pet and the 2 low level pets that are for merging). Don't merge them with your main pet yet.

Note:You can get 1 extra slot for the pet interface for free in Miller's Ranch (will explain how later). If you want to unlock the 3 remaining too you have to buy the tickets from Item Shop for 39 diamonds each.

Let's name the slots A, B and C to make it easier to explain and for you to understand. Your main pet is in Slot A, a level 1 Wild Fire pet (for example) in slot B and a level 1 Natural Fire pet in slot C.

Go to the Merging Tab and put either pet B or C as Agent and the other as Reagent (et's say that B is agent and C reagent). DON'T use the main pet. Merge the two low level pets. Once the merging is finished and you have slot C open again, grab the lowest level pet egg in your inventory and add it to the open slot. While in the merging tab, make pet B (which was agent the 1st time) reagent and put the new pet as agent. That way you can ensure that the pets won't level and you won't reach the 3 merges per pet every day limit. You keep doing this till you have no more eggs in your inventory (always using the lower level pet eggs first).

Each merge gives 50 Training Points. They don't get lost, they are just transferred to the next pet.

Once you are done with the 20 pets from your inventory merge the pet that remains, (if all is done correctly it shouldn't be higher level than your main pet), with the main pet ypu have. The main pet as agent (Left Box) and the other one as reagent (Right Box). You will notice that after the merge your main pet will gain 1050 Training Points, some Experience points (depending on the level difference between the pets), and stat increase (if any).

That means you can get 1000 Training points in a few minutes and still having 2 merges open to your main pet.

Talent Points

Talent Points are needed in order to purchase skills (or level them up) for your pet.

The pet gains 56 Talent Points every time it goes up a level. If you start with a high level pet it will have the same ammount of Talent Points as a level 1 pet so it's better to start with a low level one.

You can get extra Talent Points to purchase more skills for your pet by using a potion (Enhancement Potion) purchased from Item Shop for 25 Diamonds or from Miller's Ranch for Golden Eggs. It converts 500 Training Points into 100 Talent Points.

The pet Passive Skills maxed give:
Improved Defense 10% Physical and Magical Defense
Improved Attack Speed 5% Physical Attack Speed and Spellcasting
Improved Health 10% Health Points
Improved Healing 10% on Healing Recieved
Tenacity 100.0 points in HP and MP Recovery
Attack Secrets 5% Physical and Magical Attack
Lucky Escort 5% Drop Rate
Critical Enigma 10% Physical and Magical Critical Damage

Miller's Ranch

Miller's Ranch is a zone that is accesible by talking to any Pet Hunter (they sit on donkeys in various cities/villages). It doesn't have any level requirements to enter.

Once you are inside you will see a Pet Hunter which has the same options as the one outside and a Golden Egg Trade option.

You can trade 1 Golden Egg for Pet Hunting Training (Cavy capturing). Don't waste your Golden Egg on this.
You can trade 2 Golden Eggs for 1 Enchancement Potion (converts 500 Training Points in 100 TP)
You can trade 3 Golden Eggs for 1 Awaking Potion (converts 1000 Training Points in 1 Aptitude Point)

There are also 2 different quests (repeatable).

The 1st one from Jessica Miller (Sweet Milk) makes you gather grass to feed cows and collect 10 buckets of milk. You can get as reward
Nutricious Cheese (+10 Nourishment) Purchable also by the Pet Hunters for 5000 gold each.
Low-Fat Goat's Milk (+20 Nourishment) Obtainable by the Gift from Pet Event.
Beef Skewer (+30 Nourishment) Obtainable by the Gift from Pet Event.
Favourite Meal (+10 Loyalty). Purchasable from Item Shop for 29 Diamonds.

The second from Jenna Miller (An Easy Lay?) makes you gather Sack of Feed and feed the chickens in order to collect 10 eggs. The rewards are:
Miller's Special Cake (+1 Training, +5 Nourishment, +10 Experience). Purchasable also by any Pet Hunter for 3500 gold each.
Golden Egg (+50 Training, +100 Experience).

You can get Golden Egg only the first time you finish the quest per day so try to do it daily and save them.

The first time you get into Miller's Ranch you can do a Pet Hunting Training for free. He will give you a turkey to place in a tree trunk which will attract a wolf. Once you kill the wolf a cavy will appear. You HAVE to catch the cavy. It is a low level Rune Pet Egg (Bound) but if you talk to him again he will give you a Breeding Slot Ticket for free. In case you don't know how to catch cavies better practise by spending some gold on traps as the ticket costs 39 Diamonds to get.

Pet Crafting

The pet can gather matterials for you while you do whatever you want. By talking to any Pet Hunter you can buy:
Small Hatchet Used to level the Woodcutting skill of the pet and enables the pet to gather matterials. Costs 100 gold each.
Small Hoe Used to level the Mining skill of the pet and enables the pet to gather matterials. Costs 100 gold each.
Small Spade Used to level the Herbalism skill of the pet and enables the pet to gather matterials. Costs 100 gold each.

The pet can't be summoned while gathering so make sure to let it gather when u won't need it (or buy an extra Breeding Slot Ticket to have 4 slots open and the cheapest pet egg you can find to gather for you).

There is an addon called "Pet Auto Craft" (can be found in curse.com) which makes everything automatically so you can let the pet gather even when you are AFK. (I will add a link to it once I have permission to do it).

Pet Events

The pet if you are in the same zone for some hours and you have it summoned at some point it will talk to you (a window appears). It will be asking a question and you will have to choose between 3 different answers. Each answer gives an attribute inscrease or a gift from the pet.

Note Don't recall the pet to feed it or change zone if you want to trigger the Pet Event.
